Are you ready for some good news coming from the current economic environment? No, your mutual funds are still losing value. But consumers are changing their buying habits which could lead to more breast fed babies.
On October 22, 2008 Wal-Mart's company president released some insightful information about how shoppers habits are changing. The world's largest retailer is shedding some light on how people are really being affected. You can find some of the information here and here.
The most interesting thing that pertains to The Conscious Parent is that for the first time the company is seeing a paycheck-related spike in purchases of baby formula. They are suggesting that purchases of baby formula spike around pay days. Either, people are stocking up on pay day to make sure it lasts or sadly, they are waiting to buy formula when they can afford it.
Now don't get me wrong, I am not happy that people are struggling. But it could be a positive thing for new moms to chose breast feeding or possibly an encouragement for moms to breastfeed longer. All the benefits of breastfeeding could be realized by a new group of moms.
Breastfeeding is the best gift you can give your child. It is natural, healthy, and creates a bond between mother and child. We are so passionate about breastfeeding at Hip Mountain Mama and we feel every family should experience this natural connection as well as being educated about their choices.
The next time you hear someone complaining about the economy, just think about the positive changes coming out of this that could improve the lives of future generations such as the research going into new energy sources, new vehicle technology, and now a new push for breastfeeding. Hopefully, we will come out of this recession focused on our children and our earth and will learn from our past mistakes.
