Make the Right Call

Did you realize the average cell phone has an average lifespan of just 18 months? Each year 130 million are retired in the U.S. alone.

So what happens to all of these phone? Statistics show just 1% of all used cell phones get recycled. Most recycling centers take them. Also, keep your eyes out around Earth Day, in my area many of the Earth Day Events have stations for recycling electronics and other things that can not be recycled with the curbside pickup.

What is the big deal? It turns out almost all cell phones contain enough lead to qualify as hazardous waste under federal regulations and even lead-free phones are considered hazardous under California law due to the high amount of copper, nickel, and zinc that leach into landfills.

So do the right thing when you are finished with your phone and make sure it is recycled.
